Welcome
The Mundaring and Hills Historical Society's (MHHS) aim is to involve the people of the Shire of Mundaring in the preservation, documentation and interpretation of the history and culture of the Perth Hills.
If you are looking for the history of people, places and events that relate to 'the hills' - the MHHS can help you.
Research, Collection and Conservation
We have an extensive local history archive and research facility at our operational base - the Glen Forrest Stationmaster's House - see map. This includes objects, documents, artefacts and over a thousand historic images. Open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9am - 4pm.
Mundaring District Museum
The MHHS operates a local history museum for the benefit of the community - this space allows people to appreciate and enjoy the past. The MHHS archives are used here as a 'living' collection - no dusty cupboards! The Society employs a professional curator - to oversee the museum, maintain our archives and work at bringing our collection 'alive'.
Can you help us?
- Do you have recollections of hills people, places or events you can share with us?
- Donations of photos, objects and artefacts relating to the hills are always welcome. Scans can be taken so you retain the originals.
- Volunteers are needed to help in many areas such as helping with research projects, archiving, assisting the curator with displays, museum exhibitions and maintenance of our collection.

Some of the work we do -
- Provide a heritage and local history service within the Shire of Mundaring.
- Operate the Mundaring District Museum
- Assist individuals, schools and other groups with local history information.
- Provide a local history research room and reference library at the Glen Forrest Stationmaster's House.
- Identify and source grants for local history, heritage and cultural projects within the Shire.
- Work with community groups on historical projects and events.
