Mundaring’s notorious traffic inspector, Harry Weeks,
was born in Coolgardie in 1923.
He was raised in Glen
Forrest and enlisted in the army during WWII where he
served as a military policeman.
After the war he joined the WA Police Force and
became a traffic patrolman.
Between 1955 and 1975 he was the Shire of Mundaring’s
traffic inspector with a national reputation for the
fearless manner in which he enforced the traffic
regulations. When this role was taken over by the
Road Traffic Authority in 1975 Harry became the local
vehicle examiner for the new RTA.
‘Weeksie’, as he was known, passed away in April
1986.
When: Saturday, November 15th - meet on
site at 2pm.

Tea and coffee provided, Wine tasting available.
Join us for a tour of Lion Mill Winery with owner,
Patrick Bertola, a MHHS member. Lion Mill is a
vineyard planted on land selected in the 1870's,
originally purchased by the Morrell family of
Northam. A cottage over a century old (now
used for cellar door sales), looks out over the
vineyard planted in 1999.
The
renovation work
is progressing well on the historic Mundaring Stationmasters
House - which will become the new headquarters of the
MHHS. Late November appears to
be the date when we will move in.
We are looking forward to the move, with all the
benefits it will bring. Our new central location will
help boost our profile, as well as giving us greater
opportunity to work with nearby organisations.
Our move is also timely as next year, 2009, sees us celebrate
20 years as a historical society.
We will need as many people as possible to help us
with the move so if you can assist us please leave
your name with Trish on 9298 8944,

York Road Railway flyover, Mundaring c.1950 (MHHS Collection).

That two lane road is now Great Eastern Hwy! The
railway line is long gone. No evidence of the flyover
exists today, but it would have been located near the
Mundaring Industrial Area (where the railway reserve
crosses the highway) - close to the intersection of
Railway Tce and Great Eastern Hwy. See
